Job Posting Title Engineer, Sr Staff - Systems Design
Business Unit Mobile and Wireless Group
Job Description You will get to work on very challenging problems in the PHY layer design of 4G modems. The position requires deep thinking, rigor, and a strong background in signal processing and communication theory. Understanding of wireless communication systems, RF electronics, familiarity with RF measurement procedures, and a passion for measuring and analyzing data is a required. You need to know C and Matlab. You might write the occasional modules in which things have to be coded with great precision; one-offs for testing and validation will be more of the norm. This is not a coding job.

Intelligence, creativity, critical thinking skills, independence and excellent communication skills are a must. The successful candidate will develop algorithms and system design specifications and verify the implementation of the same in the lab and in simulation. We are looking for people with a passion for measuring things in the lab, mathematical sophistication, the desire to develop a deep understanding of the LTE standard, and an interest in cross layer design issues.

Key Job Responsibilities

Typical tasks include architecting, designing, and documenting bit accurate models of digital signal processing and control algorithms, along with accompanying models of RF and channel impairments. You will work closely with RF systems and RF IC engineers to understand radio requirements, RTL engineers to drive the implementation and verification of new designs, and baseband firmware engineers to support driver development.

Specifically:

Develop, implement, and validate signal processing architectures and algorithms for 4G modems.

Develop a deep understanding of the LTE standard and use it for performance optimization, the design of new features.

Conduct rigorous, carefully calibrated, and repeatable measurements and experiments. Analyze these data to developing a deep understanding of what’s happening, interpreting it, and communicating the results clearly.

Develop test code to exercise the firmware and hardware. These test scripts are used to support experiments and data collection.

Develop models for RF and mixed-signal paths. Validate system performance using these models along with bit-accurate hardware models using Matlab.
Job Requirements A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering plus 4-5 years of experience in the field
Depth in signal processing, linear algebra, communication theory and wireless communication systems
An affinity for detailed design, lab measurement, understanding how things work at a very deep level
Proficiency with C and Matlab
